I built Vory so I could talk to my Hermes agents from my phone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. Each agent shows up as a little bot you can chat with, and it all runs through a gateway you host yourself.

What Vory does

Everything here is in the beta today, on every device it fits. I add to it with each update.

Approve from anywhere

When a bot wants to run a command or change a file, it asks you first. Answer in the chat, from a notification, on your Lock Screen, in the Mac’s menu bar or on your wrist.

Notifications and Live Activities

Install the free Vory Companion on your gateway from the app. You get a notification when a bot replies or needs you, and on iPhone a Live Activity shows what a working bot is up to.

iPhone, iPad, Mac and Watch

One TestFlight beta covers them all. Your gateways, settings and bot looks sync through your own iCloud, so a new device starts with your setup.

iPhone Duo, every way it folds

Closed, open, on its side, like a book or half open like a laptop. When it’s closed, Back and More sit right under the time, and your chat stays open as you fold it.

Try it without a gateway

Tap Try a demo to look around with demo bots, chats and files. The demo sends nothing anywhere. On iPhone and iPad, a short welcome tour walks you through connecting when you’re ready.

Code, tables and math

Code blocks and tables wrap to fit, or scroll sideways if you’d rather, and a table opens full screen. Math in a reply is drawn as math, right on your device. Thanks to Andrew for all three.

Bot looks, per gateway

Pick each bot’s body, eyes, colour and finish. Looks are kept per gateway, so two bots with the same name on two gateways can look different.

Steer a reply

Type while a bot is still replying and your message waits its turn. Tap Steer to put it into the running reply instead, or edit or delete it before it sends.

Your own gateway

Vory talks straight to your Hermes gateway over your local network, Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel. Give it a backup address and it switches for you, home or away.

What it is

What it is

Hermes runs AI agents on a machine you own, each with its own model, tools and memory. Vory connects to it and gives every agent a face, a little bot with eyes and a colour, so you can tell at a glance who you’re talking to.

On your machine

Your agents stay on your hardware. Vory talks to your gateway directly over your network, Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel.

You say yes first

When a bot wants to run a command or change a file, it asks you first. You can answer from the chat or right from the Lock Screen.

Bots with faces

Every agent gets its own bot, so you always know who’s talking and what they’re doing.

Vory for Mac

On the Mac too

It’s a proper Mac app, with the same bots and chats as your phone. It comes in the same TestFlight beta.

Keyboard friendly

Return sends, Shift-Return adds a line, and you can drop files or paste images straight in. The usual shortcuts work.

In the menu bar

Bots that are working and anything waiting for your OK show up in the menu bar, where you can approve or deny it. Close the window and it stays there.

Widgets and files

There are desktop widgets, and you can drag files in and out of the Files page. Notifications work the same as on the phone.

Switch devices whenever

Your stuff syncs through your own iCloud. There’s still no Vory account.

Your setup follows you

Your settings, bot looks and gateways come along through iCloud. On a new device, tap Restore from iCloud on the first screen and you’re back.

Approve from any of them

Approvals show up on all of them, Apple Watch included. Answer on one and it clears on the others.

Projects

Group chats by project on both, and Handoff picks up a chat from one device on the other.

How it works

How it works

Connect once, then just chat. The bot’s face shows you what it’s doing, and it checks with you before anything risky.

    Connect

    Point Vory at your gateway and sign in. A quick tour walks you through it, and the setup guide starts from scratch. Or tap Try a demo and look around first.

    Meet your bots

    Every agent on your gateway shows up as a bot. You can pick its shape, eyes and colour.

    Talk

    Chats work like Messages. Replies stream in as the bot writes, and you can attach files, use “/” commands or steer it mid-reply.

    Approve

    When a bot needs your OK, you get a card with Approve and Deny, in the chat or on your Lock Screen.

    Get told

    Install the small Vory Companion on your gateway from the app and you’ll get notifications when a bot replies, plus Live Activities on iPhone. You can reply right from a notification.

    Put up to six bots in one chat and let them talk to you and each other.

Every bot is drawn in code, so you can build one right here. This is the same drawing the app uses.

What it’s doing

Idle bots barely move. A blink now and then, the odd glance.

At rest

A blink every few seconds and a glance now and then. Each bot has its own timing, so they never blink in sync.

Working

Every few seconds a working bot does something small, like a tilt or a glance.

What their faces mean

Thinking turns it into a glowing orb. A tool turns it into a toolbox, and writing shows three hopping bubbles. When it needs your OK, it becomes a big “!”. When it finishes, its eyes circle once and settle.

Approve from your phone

When a bot wants to do something risky, the card shows up in the chat and on your Lock Screen. Allow it once, for the session, always, or say no.

  • Replies stream in while the bot writes, and tool calls show up as cards.
  • Attach photos and files, quote a bubble, or type “/” for commands.
  • Group chats hold up to six bots.

It’s your setup

On your machine

Your agents run on your machine, and there’s no account to make.

Your connection

Connect over your network, Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel. Your sign-in stays in the Keychain.

Nothing tracked

Summaries are made on your device. This site sets no cookies. Anonymous visit counts only, through Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Get the beta

It’s a free public beta on TestFlight. You need an iPhone on iOS 26, an iPad on iPadOS 26 or a Mac on macOS 26 (or later), plus a Hermes gateway you run. The Apple Watch app comes with the iPhone app and needs watchOS 26. No gateway yet? Try a demo first.

Questions

What is Hermes?

An agent gateway you run yourself. Each agent has its own model, tools and memory. Vory talks to its API.

Does Vory need an account or a cloud?

No. It signs in to your gateway with its token and talks to it directly.

What is the Vory Companion?

A small plugin you install on your gateway from the app. It’s what sends you notifications and approval cards.

How do I reach my gateway from outside my home?

Tailscale or a Cloudflare Tunnel work well, and the app walks you through either. You don’t need to open ports. There’s more on both in Set up.

Can I try it without a gateway?

Yes. Tap Try a demo when you open the app, and you get demo bots with chats and files to look around. The demo sends nothing anywhere, and it goes away when you connect a real gateway.

Is it on the App Store? Android? Mac? iPad? Apple Watch?

The Mac, iPad and Apple Watch versions are in the same TestFlight beta. It’s not on the App Store yet. Android is on my list, but I haven’t started it.

Is Vory open source?

Yes, it’s MIT licensed and it’s all on GitHub. Pull requests are welcome. Andrew sent the code block, table and math work, and made long replies lighter on memory while they stream. If something breaks, tell me through TestFlight, a GitHub issue or the Discord. They all come to me.

Where do updates get posted?

On X at @_mattwagner_ and in the Discord. Every build has notes in TestFlight, and the tracker shows what’s open.

Why do the bots move so little?

On purpose. Only a working bot moves, so they don’t drain your battery. If you turn on Reduce Motion, they hold still.
