Help with Vory

Vory is made by one person, me, so you’ll hear back from the person who wrote it. Here’s how to get set up, how to reach me, and answers to the questions I get most.

Getting set up

New to Hermes, or connecting Vory for the first time? The setup guide goes step by step from nothing to your first chat. It covers your gateway’s address at home and away, signing in, and notifications.

Just want to look around? Open Vory and tap Try a demo. You don’t need a gateway.

Common questions

Do I need a Hermes gateway?

To chat with your own agents, yes. Vory connects to a Hermes gateway you run on a computer you own. To look around first, tap Try a demo, and you get demo bots with no setup.

Does it cost anything?

No. Vory is free, with no accounts, no ads and no in-app purchases. One download covers your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac.

Where do my chats go?

Straight between the app and your gateway. There’s no Vory account, and no server of mine sees your chats.

How do notifications work?

Notifications need the free Vory Companion, a small plugin you install on your gateway from the app (Settings › Companion). When a bot needs you, your gateway sends the notification through a small push relay I run, and on to Apple. Each alert is encrypted on your gateway, so the relay can’t read it.

What syncs through iCloud?

Your saved gateways, your settings and your bots’ looks sync through your own iCloud, so your other devices get them too. It’s on by default. You can turn it off in Settings › iCloud Sync.

What about voice?

Voice mode uses a voice provider you set up. If you save your own Gemini key, your voice goes straight from the app to Google under your key. Nothing goes through me.

Notifications aren’t arriving. What do I check?

Make sure the Vory Companion is installed and running (Settings › Companion), and that notifications are allowed for Vory in your device’s Settings. The gateway form’s Troubleshooting page has more checks.

Vory can’t reach my gateway.

Use Test Connection in the gateway form. It says what failed. If you’re away from home, add a backup address, like your Tailscale or tunnel address. The setup guide explains each kind of address.
